From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
