Puzzling Rosy Ooze on Isolated Tasmanian Shoreline Prompts Fears of Possible Phytoplankton Proliferation

Officials in the island state are striving to determine a magenta ooze that has appeared on a isolated coast, with certain experts concerned it could be an phytoplankton proliferation.

Broad Presence Along Coastline

The magenta-hued slime materialized across a portion of Randalls Bay about 60km south of the city. A comparable ooze has also been documented on areas of a nearby shore and Little Taylors Bay.

A campaigner, who collected samples of the rosy slime in the state, said it looked like the suspected bloom had "grown significantly" and proposed the salmon farming industry was the most likely culprit, referring to comparable events in other places.

"Therefore Tasmania needs to deliver a firm alert here, the government and the environmental agency need to act to this. We need to analyse the samples we've taken and we need to put word out the community here," she stated.
