The star has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots had in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The money assisted locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that funds from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to contribute his award prize money to good deeds.

Back when they earned the prize in the year 1996 for their record their work, vocalist the singer declared that the act would contribute their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist shared her bounty among multiple organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," the artist told outlets.

Two years ago, the band gave their prize money to the youth organization that nurtured their band, in addition to other local music groups.

Also winners that year the group donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked artist Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
