"I love way of putting it, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a personal statement. You have to actively work on ignoring the criticism and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Evolution of Style

That recent resilience called for a new sound – more organic and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that began with the percussion.

"The drum sound is such a nuanced thing, and I care so much about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our book," quips Alana. "I've said it, our albums cannot begin until we find the perfect drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Camaraderie

The band's openness shaped the album's rollout, where the sisters disclosed some of their romantic horror stories.

A former partner broke up with Este over a health consideration. Alana recalled a story of travelling to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"Experiencing these breakups, you just feel like there's only darkness," notes Alana. "So to be able to share those stories and have them tell you wilder stories, it's so amazing."

A Secure Path

You can clearly sense a evolution in the band. Now, Haim are more certain of their standing in the music world.

They're festival headliners, with successful albums and an global audience.

"We have been making music since I was a young child," says Alana. "It feels as if nothing else that we were destined for. And I'm really grateful we've made it and we're still kicking."
